The Heart Behind Chester the Jester
After 39 years as an educator in the Mobile County Public School System, Nancy Thompson-Truitt knows the lasting impact a story can have on a child. Her career as a band director, assistant principal, and Fine Arts Supervisor gave her a lifelong appreciation for creativity, learning, and the joy of helping young people grow.
Those same values inspired Chester the Jester — a cheerful little character created to bring laughter, kindness, encouragement, and meaningful lessons to young readers. Chester was also inspired by the joyful spirit of Nancy’s late husband, Capt. T-Bone, whose love of life continues to shine through the character and his adventures.
Rooted in her Christian faith, Nancy writes stories that remind children that even the smallest person can make a difference, spread joy, and bring light to those around them.
Nancy lives in Alabama with her husband, Edwin Truitt, and continues to share her love of storytelling, creativity, faith, and laughter through every new Chester adventure.“
